EIR/EIS for Proposed Navigation Improvement Project
(Port of Los Angeles/ USACE Los Angeles District)
This project involved the comprehensive revision of a previously prepared document that focused on the effects of dredging and land filling in San Pedro Bay for Phase I of the 2020 Plan, with particular emphasis on the actions of the Port of Los Angeles. The Plan proposed the creation of an approximately 580-acre land filled expansion for terminal development to meet continued growing demand for Port terminals to accommodate the increasing national population and trade among Pacific Rim countries. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) also evaluated the effect of dredging required channels on the movement of waterborne commerce in the San Pedro Bay region. The proposed project was based on a feasibility study completed by the USACE, Los Angeles District on deepening existing navigation channels, dredging new channels, and disposing of the dredge material.
