NEPA EIS Expansion of the National Training Center at Fort Irwin
(US Army Corps of Engineers)

The project encompassed over 625,000 acres of land surrounding the National Training Center, which is located approximately 35 miles northeast of the City of Barstow in San Bernardino County. Chambers Group revised and updated the EIS to reflect various alternatives for the land acquisition. These revisions incorporated additional technical studies and new information into the EIS.  The primary issues in the EIS include:  endangered species, sensitive biological resources, utilities, air quality, airspace, soils, water resources, socioeconomics, land use, transportation and access, recreation, solid and hazardous waste, and health and safety. The EIS addressed complex issues and their relationship to the use of the additional land for tank warfare training. The alternatives analysis included approximately ten (10) different expansion alternatives within the existing study area.
